Joining MaltaFilmExtras.com

The Malta Film Extras site, "MaltaFilmExtras.com", is an online directory where people who are interested in working as potential extras in film or commercial shoots in Malta can register.

Member Registration
The first step to take is to register as an extra. To do so you need to first register as a member. Subsequently, you can log into the system and set up your personal profile. All our members' data is securely stored on our server. Registration as an extra with our online database requires the payment of a small annual registration fee.

Setting Your Profile Details
In this section aspiring extras will accurately and completely enter their personal details, including any information that will be useful to casting directors using the site whilst selecting ideal extras candidates as required for particular scenes.

Personal Details
Examples of personal details are: your gender, age, height and build, as well as text describing your personal look.

Contact Details
You should include clear details as to how you can be contacted for potential extras work offers. Ensure that you are easily contactable by casting directors by any method convenient for you.

Experience
Include details of your relevant work experience, such as previous extras work, acting or modeling, amongst others.

Measurement
Accurately record all your measurements. Where a role requires specific costumes (e.g. impersonating a guard), the director may simply select someone who fits the costume.

General Availability
State what days or part of days you are available. Movies tend to require extras for entire days, whereas television shoots can schedule extras for half days.

Locations
You decide where you are willing to work. If you are willing to work on any of the sister islands, just indicate so. The director will then verify which potential extras are available to work at which specific locations.

Photographs
"MaltaFilmExtras.com" uses two photographs of you. You can post them to us and we will upload them for free. You don’t have to wait for a perfect photo. With "MaltaFilmExtras.com" you can replace photos as often as you like.

Headshot
The first photograph is a square head-shot. This photo is very important as it is shown as a thumbnail in all the directors’ searches.
This does not have to be a professional photo, just a clear shot of your face and possibly shoulders. A passport style photo is fine.

Portrait (Full Length)
This photo gives a view of you at full or three-quarter length. This will give a director a more complete picture of what you physically look like.

Your Personal Website
Based on the photographs and information you submit, you would have automatically built your own mini website. Only pre-registered casting directors who select you profile will have access to your contact details. This will allow the production company to contact you directly, whilst your personal data from improper access and use.

Directors' Search
Once you have completed your registration, your information is available to be searched by directors. Since "MaltaFilmExtras.com" uses a live database, any changes you make to your profile will be available the next time directors affect a search. This is a huge improvement over traditional casting books where photos could be a year out of date.

Search Criteria
The directors perform searches using numerous different criteria. During a full search, the director can select criteria such as shooting location, age, gender, height, build and complexion, among others.

Directors Results

Directors view the results of their search. This would consist of a thumbnail of each extra who matches the search criteria, along with information about these extras. The director can quickly and easily refine the results to narrow them down to a closer match to the required characteristics.

Your Resume
If a director is interested in auditioning you, he/she can click on your photo to view your resume. All the information that you have entered about yourself is then visible to the director in the right-hand frame, including your photo in full size.

Availability Checks

Where the director is looking for a small number of extras for a scene, he/she will simply phone you directly. However, where he/she requires a large number of people, he/she will perform an automatic availability check.

Here, the director performs a search and refines the results. Then he/she enters the details of a shoot: time, location, part and the like. An email with instructions on how to respond should you wish to take advantage of the call.

Later, the director will contact the people who have confirmed their availability to organize the required audition or shoot details.
