Extras FAQs
A01. No, you do not need to have worked as an extra before registering on the website. Casting directors will often choose extras based on their selection criteria of the desired characteristics required for their production. Certain roles may require extras with previous experience or specific skills, but this does not preclude aspiring extras from registering onto the database and from being eventually contacted by casting specialists.
A02. This will depend entirely on the choices made by casting directors. "MaltaFilmExtras.com" is an online directory of extras that facilitates casting directors' lives when choosing extras.
A03. Of course, film extras often include young children or teenagers. Persons under 18 years of age must submit a parental consent signed by their parent or guardian, wherein it is clearly stated that such mentioned parent or guardian allows the under-18 to register as an extra.
A04. Persons under 16 years of age may be required to be accompanied to auditions/filming, by their parent or guardian. Concerned parents might be granted permission by the Casting Director to attend the production setup. Production would probably have established rules governing this type of query, but different production companies would each have different rules to be verified and complied with.

A08. This will depend on the production you will be working on. You should verify such queries with the casting director before taking up the job.
A09. This depends on the production schedule. Normal working days are 8hrs long, but in some cases you may be required to stay longer on a set.
A10. You should immediately inform the casting director about any circumstance that arises that impedes you from attending a shoot as required.

A13. This will depend on the film and the part you will be impersonating. If make-up is required, trained make-up artists will be on set to apply make-up to all extras.
A14. This will depend on the film. Check beforehand to make sure you are suitably clothed.
A15. Generally, photograph taking is not allowed. Make sure you ask permission from the Assistant Director should you wish to take a photograph of yourself in costume.
A16. It is advisable that on set switched off.
A17. It is advisable not to bring any valuables with you to a shoot, although often there will be somewhere secure to leave your belongings. The production company will probably not accept responsibility for any belongings lost on set.
A18. Any complaints or issues regarding your work as an extra should be directed to the production company. Normally, all complaints would be received and dealt with by the Assistant Director.
A19. This depends totally on the demand for extras by production companies, and on the type of films being produced in Malta. Productions like Troy, Gladiator and Julius Caesar required hundreds of extras during their shooting period in Malta. Other influencing factors include your personal features and how ideal you will be considered for the required extra roles.
A20. The more accurate and complete are your details in your profile section, the greater are your chances of being chosen as an extra. Correct and accurate date will ensure that your profile will be selected when a director performs a search in the extras' database. Also ensure that the submitted photos match what you describe in the profile section. The head shot will be thumbnail that the director would be choosing from to obtain your full details. When you are called for an audition, make sure you leave a good impression. This is the ticket to obtaining repeat work from the same production company for any future projects they might have.
